KANU KIDS
KINDNESS.
RESPECT.
DISCIPLINE.
At KANU, we teach kids to respect themselves and others, meet challenges with resilience, and contribute to a community where everyone feels supported, included and valued.
KANU KIDS PROGRAM
KANU Kids combines martial arts, athletic development and personal growth in an environment designed to make kids want to keep coming back.
Our program blends physical development, emotional intelligence and practical self-defence with high-quality coaching and a strong sense of community. We want kids to be active, challenge themselves, build friendships and become excited to train consistently.
What’s the goal
Confidence, Focus & Control
Build physical confidence, independence and the ability to stay composed through challenges.
Community & Camaraderie
Learn how to be a good training partner and contribute to the room. New students are paired with more experienced students to help them get comfortable.
Friendships & Life Skills
Build relationships, develop an anti-bullying mindset and learn how to handle physical interactions appropriately.
A Strong Jiu-Jitsu Foundation
Develop real martial arts skills and create a pathway into our Teen and Adult programs as students get older.
-
Classes are structured differently based on age and experience. Younger kids start with running, rolling, jumping and other movement-based activities before learning a simple position or technique with a partner. Older kids progress into jiu-jitsu-specific movements, technical drilling and our position of the week. They'll learn individual positions before beginning to connect them through transitions. As they're ready, older students also participate in situational training and guided rolls, giving them an opportunity to apply what they've learned against controlled resistance.
-
Kids learn the foundations of jiu-jitsu, including takedowns, technical stand-ups, guard, passing, mount, side control, escapes and transitions. Along the way, they'll also learn how to stay calm under pressure, work safely with training partners and respect boundaries.
-
Absolutely. Every new child can try KANU free for one week.
We offer a full week because one class isn't always enough for a child to get comfortable in a new environment. The trial gives them a chance to meet the coaches, train with the other kids and experience the program a few times before you decide whether KANU is right for them.
No previous martial arts experience is required. Just book your first class and we’ll take care of the rest.
OuR Classes
Our kids program offers Jiu-Jitsu and Kickboxing, with classes designed around each age group's stage of development.
Kids Jiu-Jitsu | Ages 4–7
A fun, movement-focused introduction to jiu-jitsu. Kids build coordination, confidence and foundational skills while learning how to listen, work with a partner and be part of the room.
Kids Jiu-Jitsu | Ages 8–12
A more technical program where kids develop their jiu-jitsu through positions, takedowns, transitions, drilling and controlled live training.
Kids Kickboxing | Ages 8–12
Kids learn the fundamentals of striking through footwork, movement, punches, kicks and combinations, with an emphasis on technique, coordination and control.
MORE THAN WEEKLY CLASSES
KANU Kids also extends beyond the regular class schedule through birthday parties, in-school seminars, March Break programs and summer camps.
Birthday parties combine an age-appropriate martial arts lesson with games, obstacle courses and time to celebrate. School programs can be customized around the age of the students and the objectives of the school or group.
