Your First Step is Showing Up
You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be in shape and you don’t need to know anything about martial art before walking through the door. Show up and we’ll take it from there.
What your first class looks like
Arrive
Come 10-15 mins early. We’ll show you around, introduce you to your coach and get you settled.
Learn
Your coach will walk you through the techniques being taught that day. Nobody expects you to know what your doing yet.
Train
You’ll practice with other students in a controlled environment appropriate for your experience and leave better than you came in.

Absolutely. If you're new to KANU, we want you to have a chance to experience the gym before deciding whether it's right for you. Adults can try their first class free. Come in, meet the coaches, experience a class and get a feel for how we train.
If one class isn't enough to decide, adults can also choose our 2-Week Trial Membership, which gives you more time to experience the schedule, meet different training partners and see what training consistently at KANU is actually like.
For kids, we offer a full week free. We find that one class isn't always enough for a child to get comfortable in a new environment, so the week gives them a chance to settle in, meet the coaches and other kids, and experience the program properly.

You don't need to become good at martial arts in your first month. The goal is simply to get comfortable, build a routine and start learning.
Week 1 — Get Comfortable: Meet the coaches, learn how classes work and start getting familiar with the basic movements and positions. Nobody expects you to know what you're doing yet.
Week 2 — Build a Routine: Start finding the days and classes that work for you. You'll recognize more faces, become more comfortable with your training partners and begin building consistency.
Week 3 — Connect the Pieces: Things that felt completely unfamiliar during your first few classes will start making more sense. You'll begin recognizing positions, movements and techniques as they come up again.
Week 4 — Keep Showing Up: By now, the gym should feel a lot less unfamiliar. You'll know the routine, have people you enjoy training with and have a much better idea of what you want to work on next.

You don’t have to be a fighter. Some people come to Kanu because they want to compete. Some want to get in shape. Some want to learn something difficult. Others just need something to genuinely look forward to doing after work. You don’t have to know which one you are yet.
Just start training!
